With the professional and experienced support of practitioner Jo Corfield, young people transform. They learn to think and behave positively through listening, communicating and connecting with the horses.
Through silent communication, participants build an extraordinary relationship with the horse. The horses become their teachers, naturally commanding respect and patiently teaching them to change their responses. Negative behaviours and thoughts are replaced by kindness, calm confidence, self awareness and an ability to listen. Horses have unique and remarkable gift - they look far beyond the surface, beyond the behaviour and the subsequent label - to the good that lies beneath.
Specialist Jo Corfield guides young people’s interactions with the horses showing them how to quieten their minds and fully experience the present moment with empathy and compassion and so find new ways of resolving conflict and dealing with negative emotions. The horses can be of particular help with young people who have trouble expressing themselves, emotionally or verbally, and offer a totally conflict free means of communication and self-expression.
A course of Equine Involvement therapy, will provide young people with all the tools and strength they need to form good relationships, maintain self-respect and self-esteem; accept authority with understanding and without aggression. Working with the horses encourages self-acceptance; empathy, kindness, patience and perseverance. Promoting a strong sense of pride in the tasks that are being completed and nurturing feelings of achievement, fulfilment and satisfaction, sometimes for the first time ever.
The Hopethruhorses naturally kept horses provide the perfect non-judgmental, non-critical environment, free from preconceptions and expectations to help adolescents and children with relationships, communication, self-acceptance, anger management, aggression, low self-esteem and associated issues. Their strength and presence is immensely powerful, and their reactions to those around them, often marked by the subtlest change in behaviour or attitude, acts as a mirror of human emotion.
