Talking Horses & Other Stories

Our unique club offers children the opportunity to learn all about the art of communication in the company of horses and ponies and through creative story telling and writing.
Hopethruhorses founder Jo Corfield has teamed up with professional writer Caroline Wright to put together a magical programme of activities to engage children in learning, language and creativity.
Learning how horses talk
Jo introduces children to her own beautiful herd of horses and ponies and to the very special language they use to talk to each other and to those humans who have taken the time to study and understand them.
She will explain just what tiny signals like the twitch of an ear or change in their breathing really mean and will show children how we can use simple movements, or even just our thoughts, to talk to the ponies. She will also explain how ponies think and why they behave in certain ways.
Each child will have the opportunity to groom, pet and handle the ponies and to try out their newly learned pony language skills.
Creative writing

Inspired by their time with the ponies, the landscape and nature that surrounds them and a box of wonderful images and ideas, each child will imagine and write and illustrate their very own story.
Professional writer Caroline will help children explore ideas and develop characters and simple plots using a range of fun techniques. Each child will have the opportunity to share their stories with the group, along with their thoughts about what has inspired them during the course of the morning, and each will bring their story home to share with family and friends.
